Map 571 Northern Territory
Author(s): UBD
One of Australia's most recognisable symbols rises from the Central Australian desert: the ancient red monolith of Uluru. Yet this is only one of the NT's natural wonders, which also include Kakadu NP, Katherine Gorge, Devils Marbles, Kata Tjuta, Gove Peninsula, Tiwi Islands and much more. Despite the Territory's wild image, the reality is much more civilised with the main routes forming a network of sealed, all-weather roads allowing easy touring. Centres such as Darwin and Alice Springs offer every modern convenience. The NT is bound by a fascinating histroy, stretching back over 60,000 years.
