William Irwin was an Irish farm boy who came to Australia by himself in 1849, aged 18. William often wrote to his family. His great-granddaughter Helen Townsend finds 54 of these letters, and it is from these letters that she draws powerful inspiration for this book. The book explores her heritage in a lively and compelling memoir.
