Alexander Soderberg (b. 1970) previously worked as a scriptwriter and story editor for Swedish television, where he worked on the adaptations of well-known crime novels as well as drama and sitcoms. The Andalucian Friend is Alexander Soderberg's debut novel and the first part of a trilogy featuring Sophie Brinkmann. Publishers Weekly dubbed The Andalucian Friend "book of the fair" at the 2011 Frankfurt Book Fair, where foreign rights to the entire trilogy were sold in frenzied auctions across the world.
