Jon Campbell: No Planet B is an artist book of 15 (removable) risograph prints responding to Australia's 'black summer' and the covid-19 pandemic. This book was published and devised by Bronwyn Johnson with artwork by leading Australian artist Jon Campbell, risograph printing by master-printer Aaron Beehre of Ilam Press, Christchurch, New Zealand.____The summer 2019 bushfires started in September. As predicted by numerous fire and emergency service agencies, the fire season was early. From September 2019 to February 2020, fires would impact the eastern states of Australia with particular devastation during summer's height. Australia's changing climate is wreaking havoc; eco-systems are collapsing; bushfire and drought appear with unsettling frequency. There is ... 'No Planet B'. For many years, as a way of easing my apprehension on the unfolding climate crisis I kept a list of climate related expressions. These expressions focussed on ecological extinction, fire, water, air, and heat - my friends agreed that 'a breathing space between disasters would be good'.In January 2020 as the bushfires raged, I asked Jon Campbell to look at the list with a view to creating a book of prints - who better to do this but the Artist with a keen sense of the vernacular. Jon re-worked and edited these expressions into 15 artworks with book design and print production by risograph master printer Aaron Beehre.
